Winthrop Charter SchoolI began working at Winthrop Charter School, a CSUSA school, in October of 2015. I had just recently moved to Tampa from Orlando, where I had lived all my life. I knew that I needed to get some normalcy back in my schedule so I went on a job hunt for a paraprofessional position. I found it very difficult to get into the public school system since the school year had already begun but luckily a new friend of mine told me about a charter school near by. I applied at Winthrop not knowing what position I would be able to obtain. It turned out that they did not have a para opening, however, they needed a long term substitute for a maternity leave. I jumped on the opportunity and immediately fell in love with the school and its learning community. I spent the remainder of that school year working in 4th grade and Kindergarten as a maternity leave substitute. I learned a lot that first year! I had many eye opening experiences, but it truly solidified my passion for teaching.
